POINTE BLANCHE–The man who was gunned down on Chincherry Road in Pointe Blanche on Monday, August 27, in what police had described as a possible botched robbery attempt, has been identified as K.L.D. (29).
Police spokesperson Chief Inspector Ricardo Henson said in a press release on Thursday that the suspect was born in St. Maarten, but was raised in St. Kitts. He said more details regarding this investigation are presently unavailable.
Henson had said in a press release issued hours after the incident that the Police Special Unit Robbery had been investigating what seemed to have been an attempted armed robbery that went wrong around 11:05pm Monday, leaving one of the suspects dead.
Henson said at the time that the robbery victim and his son were driving in their car on Chincherry Road when they were attacked by two unknown man armed with guns who attempted to rob them. The suspects fired shots at their victim who was also carrying a gun and who returned fire, fatally wounding one of the suspects. The other suspect fled the scene on foot into the neighbourhood.
The robbery victim and his son did not suffer any injuries during the shooting and, at the time, were detained at the police station in Philipsburg for questioning.
