SHTA ‘Calm in Your Storm’ campaign in Northeast US

PHILIPSBURG–St. Maarten as a refuge from the snow storm that clobbered the North-eastern United States was the message of a mini-movie launched on social media by St. Maarten Hospitality and Trade Association (SHTA) on Wednesday.

The “Calm in Your Storm” feature portrays a US highway in a snowy, grey background, and two hands shaping a heart with images from a St. Maarten beach.

The storm ad was derived already in November as a teaser, but missing a “perfect storm” for launch, said SHTA; and then Snow Storm Stella blew in the past days grounding flights in the Boston and New York area.

The movie, created locally by St. Maarteners Loic Bryan (Artistic Drive), Arun Jagtiani, Ronny Busby and Eduardo DeHaay, is derived from an ongoing branding project SHTA stated in August 2016. The movie was shared by a number of St. Maarten hotels and was picked up by many island visitors with reactions coming in from as far as Russia.

SHTA members sent out the message to over 5,000 travel agents in the Northeastern United States to think of St. Maarten for those wanting to flee the cold weather. The movie garnered a significant number of views on SHTA’s website.

SHTA expressed happiness about international attention the mini-movie, as it is to organize the St. Maarten Annual Tradeshow on June 14-16 together with its partners of L’Association des Hoteliers de St. Martin (AHSM), Saint-Martin Tourism Office and the St. Maarten Tourist Bureau.

With its branding efforts, SHTA said it builds on the conviction that the best brand St. Maarten can be built bottom up by St. Maarteners and loyal customers. The country has enough talent to produce its own award winning campaign, the association said.
