Sidewalk parking

Infrastructure Minister Christophe Emmanuel thought he was doing a great thing for pedestrians when he ordered the removal of the bollards placed along Front Street and Back Street. However, human nature took over and the occurrence the bollards were placed in the mid-2000s to stop was back in full force: drivers started to park on the sidewalks on both sides of the street further narrowing the one-way streets and causing pedestrians to dodge traffic or squeeze between parked vehicles and buildings. Emmanuel said in the Council of Ministers Press Briefing on Wednesday: “We have removed the bollards, now they are parking [on the sidewalks – Ed].” (John Halley photos)
