SOG board members, tenants and invited guests on Saturday at Simpson Bay Market.

SIMPSON BAY–Good wishes and words of congratulations were the order of the day on Saturday when Johnny Bridgewater, Carmelita Grant, Louise Halley and Market Operations Manager Johnny Halley were honoured for being the first tenants of the Simpson Bay Market opened ten years ago.

Stichting Overheidsgebouwen (SOG), the foundation responsible for the upkeep of the facility, along with government officials held a small ceremony for the honourees and current tenants.

Minister of Tourism Stuart Johnson said in his address to the attendees, “The establishment of this facility 10 years ago shows the forward thinking of our leaders who worked to make the Simpson Bay Market what it is today. Once again, congratulations to the board of the Stichting Overheids Gebouwen St. Maarten and the community of Simpson Bay as you celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Simpson Bay Market.”

Minister of Education Culture Youth and Sport Wycliffe Smith, SOG board President Kurt Ruan and board members Marco London and Cylred Richardson were also at the event.

The celebration continues at the Simpson Bay Market on St. Maarten Day, November 11, when a string of events will be hosted by Elton Richardson.
