Concerned citizen Jeffrey Richardson has submitted to government his written objection to the wording on the 2019 vehicle number plates. Richardson is not happy with the slogan “50 Years of Carnival” replacing the words “The Friendly Island.” The latter has been on the number plates for many years and, according to Richardson, is “accepted as the trademark” of the country.
He queried whether government had discussed the change with stakeholders, in particular Parliament, and whether the decision for the slogan can be reversed. “I am in no manner or form trying to stop the celebration of the 50th year anniversary of Carnival. Those persons who want to celebrate Carnival for me are free to do so.
All I am saying is that as a people we would like you to include us, the people, whenever changes are being made,” Richardson said in this letter.
