PHILIPSBURG–The country’s sole hospital St. Maarten Medical Center (SMMC) is in grave need of a number of items so that it can continue to offer care to the community in the wake of Hurricane Irma, which battered the island with category five winds on Wednesday, September 6.
An SMMC official said in a message on her personal Facebook page that SMMC has been “heavily damaged” by the hurricane and the institution is making every effort to restore all its functions, to be able to provide the necessary basic hospital care to the people of St. Maarten post-hurricane Irma.
The official said however, that due to the devastation the hospital is in grave need of medical supplies, equipment, medication, food and building materials for repairs. “We at SMMC highly appreciate donations received for a rapid, full recovery of our services. Every contribution helps.”
