CAY HILL–Medical workers at St. Maarten Medical Center (SMMC) were given new insights as it relates to quality and safety management during a seminar entitled “Change Towards Quality and Safety,” organised by SMMC’s Quality and Safety Department recently.
The seminar, held at Divi Little Bay Beach Resort, was facilitated by a leading quality expert from the Netherlands, Dr. Everard van Kemenade. SMMC medical specialists, Emergency Room doctors, House Officer and Pharmacist attended the seminar and were given “clarity on properly channelling their thoughts as tools to facilitate change.”
Van Kemenade, who is a trainer and consultant in quality management, said he was very enthusiastic about the interaction between the medical staff, expressing the current situation of the hospital, its desired situation, the roadblocks and resources on the way.
“There is a need for further initiatives like this where ideas can emerge and it would be very fruitful for the development of the hospital on its way to excellence,” he said.
SMMC said the seminar had been a success with more than 30 persons in attendance for the day-long event. SMMC’s Quality and Safety Project Manager Tammie Papada said the seminar had been “an excellent networking opportunity to involve SMMC medical specialists as our organisation strives toward meeting Joint Commission International (JCI) standards, the highest standards of quality and safety recognition on an international level.”
