‘Sonic’ wins Thursday’s race and declared Boat of the Year | THE DAILY HERALD

Exciting race for Champion of Champions title Sunday.

ANGUILLA–Sonic won Thursday’s boat race at Meads Bay and was declared the Boat of the Year. The title is based on points for all the races during the season. Real Deal was Boat of the Year last year. In the B-Class Stay Up is Boat of the Year. Other winners on Thursday were Bluebird in second place, Light and Peace third, followed by Satellite and UFO.

On Sunday, August 12, the Summer Festival comes to an end with the Champion of Champions race for A- and B-Class boats. Onlookers are looking forward to an exciting race as the boats have all been sailing well and there have been some close finishes.

All the B-Class boats have qualified for the Championship. For the A-Class the boats competing will be Sonic, Satellite, Bluebird, Real Deal, UFO, Light and Peace, 4 G Eagle, De Tree and Speed and Comfort. On Sunday the B-Class race will start at 12 noon and the A-Class at 3:00pm.

The government of Anguilla is the platinum sponsor for the races and the Anguilla Social Security Board is sponsoring the Champions race. Other sponsors during the week include International Wines and Spirits (IWAS) on Sunday and Monday with Captain Morgan and Heineken, Dina Rooney on Tuesday, the Blowing Point Community, Curtis Richardson and the Anguilla Air and Seaport Authority on Wednesday, and on Thursday the Anguilla Tourist Board, telecommunications company FLOW and Tropical Distributors.
