St. Maarten Concrete delivers loads of concrete by boat to Port de Plaisance | THE DAILY HERALD

COLE BAY–“Ingenious and very effective” were the words used by the owner of a sailboat after he witnessed a St. Maarten Concrete truck sailing up Simpson Bay Lagoon on board a barge to deliver concrete.

The load of concrete was one of several to be delivered to Yacht Club Port de Plaisance where Conan BV is conducting extensive repairs and redesigns to the dock which was extensively damaged by Hurricane Irma in September 2017.

The first phase for the docks was a redesign to accommodate mega-yacht Yalla and the contractors are now able to extend the dock with great ease thanks to the combined creative efforts of Benjamin “Ben” Sweetman of Conan BV and Franklyn David of St. Maarten Concrete. David said the idea was an exciting one, as he was eager to see his truck travelling up Simpson Bay Lagoon on board a barge.

“This goes to show that there is simply no job too big, too small or location too difficult to reach whether by land or water,” said David.

Sweetman said the selection of the company to deliver concrete was a significant concern both from the standpoint of its willingness to take the risk of putting the truck on board his barge as well as the quality of concrete that he would receive.

He added that when rebuilding the dock he had started using cement produced by St. Maarten Concrete Company and had received several compliments from the operators of some of the mega-yachts that dock at Yacht Club Port de Plaisance.

“I hate to say it, but the product they deliver makes some of the rest look inferior,” said Sweetman.
