PORT--The newest ship from Celebrity Cruises will debut earlier than expected and features St. Maarten. Celebrity Edge, originally set to debut in December 2018, will sail its first itineraries starting in November from Fort Lauderdale, the cruise line announced this week.

Edge will sail four, three-night Bahamas itineraries starting on November 21. It will then sail two different seven-night Caribbean itineraries—the first will include calls to Key West, Costa Maya, Cozumel, and Grand Cayman while the second will call at San Juan, Tortola, and St. Maarten.

In a statement, Celebrity president Lisa Lutoff-Perlo said the early arrival is due to “the amazing work of the STX France shipyard team.”

She also said all the new voyages will have all of the festivities one would expect from the launch of such a revolutionary new ship, and now even more guests will have the chance to experience these one-of-a-kind inaugural sailings.

The ship includes the new Edge Stateroom, which will have an Infinite Veranda, giving guests open-air access to the sea, along with new digital control of the stateroom’s lighting, shades, and temperature. It will offer two new Iconic Suites, each with two bedrooms and two bathrooms at nearly 2,600 square feet.

Edge will also debut with the first ever Magic Carpet, a traveling platform the size of a tennis court hanging off the side of the ship that will offer a full bar, a live music area, meeting space, and an open-air dining venue. It will be able to scale the 16-deck ship through the day and evening.
