St. Maarten represented at annual CANTO in Trinidad | THE DAILY HERALD

TRINIDAD–St. Maarten was represented at the recent telecommunication conference CANTO in Trinidad. Telecommunication Minister Stuart Johnson led a delegation that included St. Maarten Telephone Group of Companies Chief Executive Officer Kendall Dupersoy, to the 35th annual conference and trade exhibition.

Themed “Transitioning to a Digital Region – Opportunities and Challenge,” the three-day event highlighted that a multi-sectoral approach is needed to connect the unconnected in the world of telecommunications, said Johnson at Wednesday’s Council of Ministers Press Briefing.

The three key messages of the conference, according to Johnson, were the need for stakeholders to come together to make the digital future a success, by being technologically inclusive, the need to bring voices that are more diverse to the table, inclusive of women and people with disabilities and a need to embrace a much more holistic approach to transforming the region and breaking down silos.

While in Trinidad, Johnson met with Dutch Ambassador Jules Bijl about a possible economic trade mission given the potential synergies that exist among countries.
