ST. EUSTATIUS–The suspect in a stabbing that took place during a funeral procession on St. Eustatius on Tuesday was transferred to the prison of Foundation Judicial Institutions Caribbean Netherlands JICN in Bonaire.
K.R. (28) was arrested shortly after the incident outside the Roman Catholic Church and Salem cemetery at the entrance to Sandy Road on Tuesday.
K.R. was held in pre-trial detention on Statia. He is suspected of stabbing D.M. (25), who was transferred to St. Maarten Medical Center for treatment on Thursday evening. There were many onlookers present at F.D. Roosevelt Airport when D.M. was transferred to St. Maarten.
In The Daily Herald’s edition of Friday, March 16, it was erroneously published that K.R. had thrown a bottle. Witnesses stated that prior to the fight, they had seen the victim with a bottle.
One witness stated that as D.M. held the bottle in his hand the crowd started to scream and scatter in the brawl.
As the investigation is ongoing police are calling on witnesses to come forward, or call tel. 318-2333 with their recollection of the incident.
