National Disaster Coordinator and Fire Chief Clive Richardson and Paul Martens of the Office of Disaster Management recently updated the Council of Ministers on the country’s state of preparedness for the 2019 Atlantic Hurricane Season. Lessons learned from Hurricane Irma are being implemented throughout the disaster management system, the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and the Emergency Support Function (ESF) groups. The focal points are safety and security, shelters, the curfew system, relief supplies, storage, and local and international agreements. There was an interactive discussion on the best way forward and on gaps that still need to be closed. The Council of Ministers will be updated regularly by Prime Minister Leona Romeo-Marlin in her capacity as EOC head, along with Richardson and Martens.
