- EUSTATIUS–Statia Carnival 55 came to a close at Mike van Youth Centre/Carnival City at midnight Monday. There was no Last-Lap Jump-Up, but instead, Carnival 2019 closed out with a grand Band-O-Rama during which six bands took to the stage to perform before a very large crowd.
The bands that entertained the crowd during the last night of Carnival were Titus, D’Vybzz, Turbulanzz, Rebels, Champions and Minus-2. The Band-O-Rama was organised by Marlon Hook.
Statia Carnival Committee President Teena Lopes thanked all contributors over the years, mentioning them by name, and announced that this would be the last year of service for the current Carnival Committee members.
The outgoing Carnival Committee honoured Ozzie “Ibo” Spanner, Jovita “Joan” Green-Windefelde and Elva Arnaud for their dedicated service and commitment during their term as Carnival organisers.
As Green-Windefelde was not present, a friend accepted the plaque on her behalf.
Winston Fleming of the Musical Foundation said Statia Lions Club and the Carnival Foundation will come together at a later date and announce who will be in the Carnival Committee for 2020 and beyond.
King Stupid was lit at the stroke of midnight. Members of the Fire Department were present to put out the fire.
