  1. EUSTATIUS–The Statia Day week of activities officially opened on Tuesday, November 12, with a Gospel Night. The week of activities will culminate with the 243rd anniversary celebration of Statia Day on Saturday, November 16.

Master of ceremonies Eardley Woodley entertained the audience throughout the evening.

Deputy Government Commissioner Mervyn Stegers, who opened the week of activities, said he hoped that everyone enjoys themselves for the entire week and expressed hope that they also remained safe.

He urged the public to attend every event to enjoy the festivities as well as “the beautiful weather.” He also commented on the Gospel Night event. “The amount of talent that is present here tonight is enough to make our own television programme featuring the angelic voices of the performers from this beautiful island. I hope you all have a fantastic Statia Week which is now officially opened,” Stegers said.

Statia’s Junior Tourism Commissioner Anastasia Korstanje welcomed everyone to the festivities.

The Gospel Night programme featured performers, from toddlers all the way up to senior citizens, including the junior winner of the 2019 International Interscholastic Idol Competition Mia “MJ” Jenna Courtar, Master Ishn, Luke Blair, Big Stone Fellowship, Lady of Culture Marcella Gibbs-Marsdin and her Tiny Tots and others.

The highlight of the evening was the seniors from Chapel Piece Health and Recreational Centre under the leadership of Lena Courtar.

The week of activities will continue with Culture Night tonight Thursday, November 14.
