Summer Family Fun event in Bellevue this weekend | THE DAILY HERALD

Tons of fun for children of all ages this weekend at Summer Family Fun Weekend.

MARIGOT–SXM Horizon in collaboration with Foundation for Hope and Music Development will be organising a Summer Family Fun Bounce and Splash event in the gardens of Bellevue this coming Saturday and Sunday, July 28-29 from 10:00am to 6:00pm on both days.

The concept of the event is similar to last year’s very popular Summer Splash held in the Carnival Village on July 30, which attracted some 450 children according to ticket sales.

This weekend Funtopia will again be assisting by organising entertainment and games for the children. Emcees for the fun event are Dutty Sham and Caution.

“Last year the event was so popular that we planned to do it again in November, but [Hurricane – Ed.] Irma came and changed everything,” said President of Hope and Music Development Paul Whit. “And all the stock that we had was destroyed so everything got cancelled. Fortunately for us after the hurricanes the Fondation de France was focussed on helping the kids and the elderly, helping to finance associations to create activities.

“We presented them with the dossier for this event and it was approved in Paris. We also submitted it to Crédit Mutuel. I’m happy to say that Fondation de France and Crédit Mutuel, and our other sponsors have made it possible to hold this event to a sufficient standard that we believe will make children and parents very happy.

“Last year parents were fully involved and we ask them again to accompany their children. For that we are not charging parents an entrance fee. The entrance fee for children is 10 euros or US $10 but includes a snack and a drink.”

Like last year there will be three different size pools for swimming or splashing about. In keeping with the security commission requirements there will be swimming instructors and supervisors on site at all times. In all there will be some 30 volunteers making sure all goes smoothly with no accidents.

Food and drink stands will be available for adults so children will be free to enjoy themselves to the fullest. Many other activities will be available including games, basketball, bouncy castles, remote-controlled sailboats, and possibly remote-controlled airplanes with two pilots giving demonstrations although the latter is not certain. But children will be able to operate the sailboats in a pool. Disney characters will be entertaining the children and a stage show will be organised.

“There will be plenty to keep children occupied for the whole day,” added Whit. “We are encouraging children and parents from both sides of the island to come out and enjoy this weekend. Come with your flip flops and beach wear. No need to go to Disneyland, we have it right here. I do want to thank all the sponsors for making this happen for the children.”
