In the Rotary family, the focus for the month of December is Disease Prevention and Treatment.
The Diabetes Foundation of St. Maarten (DFS) bus is now back on the road after being damaged by Hurricane Irma, thanks to Rotary Club of St. Maarten-Mid Isle, which was able to have the DFS bus repaired with funds raised at the Heineken Regatta. A cheque was also presented to DFS President Lottie Peterson to help in purchasing items needed for DFS’ weekly testings. DFS is a non-profit organisation established with the aim of creating awareness of diabetes among the general population.
DFS can be found at a location every Saturday offering free glucose and blood-pressure testing to the public. On occasions cholesterol check-ups are also offered. Rotary Club of St. Maarten-Mid Isle meets at Pineapple Pete in Simpson Bay at 7:00pm Tuesdays.
