PHILIPSBURG–A suspect has been arrested in the investigation into the fatal shooting of Jonathan Williams in front of RBC Royal Bank in Simpson Bay on August 5.
The investigation into the case has been named “Marmer”. Police spokesperson Chief Inspector Ricardo Henson said on Friday that the suspect was arrested by members of the St. Maarten Police Force and is in restricted custody. Henson said this means that no further details will be provided at this time.
Gendarmes had confiscated a stolen vehicle recently at the request of the St. Maarten Police Force, as part of the same investigation.
Henson had said in an earlier release that the police investigating team had requested that the Gendarmes confiscate the stolen vehicle in French St. Martin in connection with the murder investigation. The vehicle had been parked in French Quarter and was “most probably,” the one used by the suspect in the murder case, Henson had said.
The vehicle was confiscated and a team of the St. Maarten Police Force’s forensic investigators were to have investigated it for evidence.
Williams was shot around 4:00am August 5 while he was sitting in his car with licence plate P-207. He apparently had been leaving the parking lot when he was shot. His body had been confiscated by orders of the Prosecutor who had been on the scene of the crime with the Police Chief Carl John and other officials.
