Suzy calls for Blok to resign | THE DAILY HERALD

WILLEMSTAD–The recent statement by Foreign Affairs Minister Stef Blok that a multicultural society cannot exist peacefully, sparked an outcry in Curaçao and other parts of the Dutch Caribbean

Several politicians and members of government reacted, because Blok represents the entire Kingdom and not only the Netherlands. By far the most striking comment came from Minister of Health, Environment and Nature Suzanne “Suzy” Camelia-Römer in her capacity as leader of the one-seat coalition party PIN.

She said Blok has to step down based on his statements. “It is a disgrace that the minister represents the Kingdom that includes countries with a multiracial, multicultural society. The minister must keep the honour to himself. “

Minister Blok clearly lacks historical and cultural knowledge about the countries within the Kingdom, added Camelia-Römer.

“A foreign minister of the Kingdom consisting of four multicultural and multiracial countries must have the historical and cultural knowledge of the different countries as part of his profile; and certainly, knowledge of parts of the Kingdom that he must represent on the basis of his task, such as Curaçao, where the existence and identity of many of us are bound to the multiculturalism of which he denies the existence.”
