AIRPORT–SXM Airways, a new charter company that aims to offer charter services to destinations in the region, is not happy with Government and the Civil Aviation Department, as it is still waiting to hear whether its permit request was granted or denied.
The Daily Herald contacted SXM Airways Managing Director Elvis Queeley about the status of his company’s air operator’s certificate (AOC) on Sunday. He said, “It has been quite a journey for us. We’ve done our utmost best to deliver all that is required for civil aviation to get the economic permit.
“It’s quite disheartening that we still can’t get a straight answer on what the advice is regarding SXM airways. We know for a fact that we have fulfilled all requirements as per the law for the company. It is beyond enough time for Civil Aviation to inform us regarding the advice of our economic permit.”
Civil Aviation Head Lou Halley stated in a recent interview with this newspaper that the process was almost complete, but the Central Bank still had to finalise its financial assessment. Another factor that delayed the process is the recent cyber-attacks on Government computer systems.
The company still hopes that Government can step in and force the department to finally render a decision.
