PHILIPSBURG–The annual programme St. Maarten in Retrospect which airs every St. Maarten Day is celebrating its twentieth anniversary this year.
This year Tamara Groeneveldt will be one of the co-hosts of the popular St. Maarten Day programme which features the island history, culture, music, arts and the celebrations observing the holiday.
This year also marks the 60th anniversary of the St. Maarten Day “Unity” celebration.
“Groeneveldt is an emerging poet from St. Martin who has been the mistress of ceremonies for various events such as poetry slams, weddings, family reunions and recently St. Maarten Summer Jazz,” St. Maarten in Retrospect producer Elton Richardson said in a press statement on Sunday.
Groeneveldt holds a Master’s degree in social work from Florida A&M University. At University of St. Maarten (USM) she joined the Young Poets Society. In the past, Groeneveldt has recited her poetry at official St. Martin Day programmes, including making an appearance on St. Maarten in Retrospect last year, presentations attended by the island’s officials and the king and queen of the Netherlands, at the 10,000 Men March for St. Martin and at For A World Without Walls.
She is the former award-winning president of Soualiga Corporate Toastmasters Club and has had her poetry published in Where I See the Sun – Contemporary Poetry in St. Martin. Her first book is After the Storm.
Richardson said he welcomes the dynamic contribution Tamara Groeneveldt brings to the programme.
