Taste of Culture to return after hurricane interruption

Food display at Taste of the Cultures.

ST. EUSTATIUS–Taste of the Cultures has grown immensely since it started in May last year. The monthly food-tasting event has become locals’ favourite place to chill. The next edition of Taste of the Cultures will be held at Mike van Putten Youth Centre (Lion’s Den) on Thursday, October 26, from 6:00pm to 9:00pm.

More than 17 nationalities residing on St. Eustatius have contributed to this vibrant food fair, which is held every last Thursday of the month.

Taste of the Cultures is being organized by St. Eustatius Tourism Development Foundation (STDF), in close collaboration with St. Eustatius Business Association (STEBA).

“This is the key event for persons of all ages. It gives us the opportunity to highlight the phenomenal talent of the youth,” said STEBA President Winston Fleming.

On Thursday, a vegetarian booth that will feature delicious vegetarian dishes will be added to the “menu.”

“The response from the local community, as well as visitors, has been overwhelming. We are working closely with the youth. Daughters of the King (DOTK), Mega-D Youth Foundation MYF and Gwendoline van Putten school’s dance group coordinated by Cecilia Gittens, they are all included in our plans. Folks come out specially to taste indigenous dishes, to chillax, dance, or to see the youths perform on stage,” said Product Development and Human Resources Manager at STDF Maya Leon-Pandt.

In addition to the tasting opportunities, this Thursday, with support from the Golden Rock Cancer Awareness Foundation, there will be a Zumbathon “Dance for the Cure with Zumba Fitness.” The warm-up session is hosted by Zumba instructor Learie Hall from St. Maarten.
