ST. EUSTATIUS--Taste of the Cultures will be returning from a hiatus today, Thursday, March 25. This event was not held for the past twelve months due to the COVID-19 pandemic, as large events were prohibited.

The event, during which the various cultures in St. Eustatius can be enjoyed with food, drink, music and community togetherness, is hosted by the Statia Tourism Office on the last Thursday of every month.

Statia is home to persons of 52 different nationalities and at this event, mouth-watering “bits and bites” are offered by representatives of some of these cultures. Food enthusiasts are able to enjoy a variety of cultural dishes of their choosing.

Taste of the Cultures also boasts monthly entertainment by local performers and tonight’s edition will be no different, as it will include one of Statia’s well-known disc jockeys, DJ-Max.

“Persons from all walks of life have visited this event, from Johnson Johnrose of the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) in Barbados to State Secretary [of Home Affairs and Kingdom Relations – Ed.] Raymond Knops of the Netherlands, just to name a few,” during its years of existence, said St. Eustatius Tourism Development Foundation (STDF) product development manager Maya Pandt.

“I have been waiting on this for a year now. My taste buds will again rejoice,” said patron at past tasting events Glenda Courtar.

Pandt said that although the island is COVID-free and has been for some time now, the Statia government is requesting that visitors adhere to the rules and regulations that govern the COVID-19 situation, such as washing their hands frequently.
