PHILIPSBURG–Minister of Tourism, Economic Affairs, Transport and Telecommunication Stuart Johnson announced on Wednesday that his cabinet and the St. Maarten Tourist Bureau have been working on a special initiative in preparation for Carnival 50 next year.
Johnson said on Wednesday during the weekly Council of Ministers press briefing, “We want to ensure that everyone gets an opportunity to enjoy and be part of a historic moment in our country’s culture. Therefore, in honour of our achievement of 50 years of Carnival, on November 30 I would be giving away 50 Carnival Season Passes to 50 lucky winners.
“We are kicking off the promotion of Carnival-50 in a big way on that day. In order to win one of the season passes, persons within the community can come to the Government Administration Building and drop their names in a Gold Box that will be guarded 24-7.
“There will be a form to fill and once you follow the instruction and fill the form in completely, simply drop it in the box and on November 30 we will have a big celebration during which the St. Maarten Carnival Development Foundation (SCDF) in collaboration with the Tourist Bureau will feature several local soca artists and various Carnival ambassadors.
“At that time the 50 lucky winners of the 2019 Carnival Passes worth US $250 would be announced. This promotion is part of our awareness campaign aimed at getting more community participation and involvement in Carnival 50 and beyond.”
