A surveillance camera image of two young men attempting to burglarise a supermarket in St. Peters early Monday morning. One of them was later arrested.
PHILIPSBURG–The St. Maarten Police Force KPSM arrested a teenage boy R.F.C. early Monday for attempting to burglarise a supermarket on St. Peters Road around 2:00am Monday.
Police received several calls about two young men who were trying to break into the supermarket early Monday morning.
“Just before arriving on the scene, officers were able to receive vital information from the dispatch centre on the whereabouts of the suspects. With the information received from the dispatch centre, together with that received from witnesses, a search was carried out by the patrols in the area of St. Peters Road.
“After a short search in the area, the patrol succeeded in locating one of the suspects who tried breaking into the supermarket,” said police in a press release on Monday afternoon.
Officers arrested C. and subjected him to a search. “All the items in his possession were confiscated pending further investigation,” said police.
He was later taken to the Philipsburg police station, where he is being held for questioning. Despite searching the area, police were unable to locate the second suspect.
“This investigation is ongoing,” said police.
In addition to this attempted burglary, several establishments have been burglarised in the past week. Police have confirmed that café Coffee Lounge in Philipsburg was burglarised on Thursday, March 19. Police also confirmed that a Chinese supermarket on L.B. Scott Road was burglarised early Monday morning.
Restaurant Negril Cuisine in Philipsburg was burglarised around 3:00am Sunday. The restaurant released surveillance camera images of the break-in on its Facebook page.
