Ten arrested for violating curfew | THE DAILY HERALD

PHILIPSBURG–The St. Maarten Police Force KPSM arrested ten persons on Friday night, May 15. While all these persons were arrested for violating the government-imposed curfew, one man was drunk at the time of his arrest and was also held for public intoxication.

“In implementing the first phase of the police de-escalation plan, which includes maintaining public order during the set curfew hours and deterring car thefts and burglaries, the police detained 10 persons on the night of May 15. … Most of the suspects arrested were in connection with violating the curfew,” said police in a press release Saturday.

All those arrested were taken to the Philipsburg police station and held overnight for questioning. After being questioned, they were given heavy fines and released, according to police.

“The Police Force of St. Maarten again would like to make it clear to some members of the community that we are taking a zero-tolerance approach to persons who insist on disregarding the curfew laws,” said police.
