Tourism Council meeting in progress.
MARIGOT–President Daniel Gibbs convened the Tourism Council on Tuesday, May 14, in Hotel de la Collectivité. This political body created in the aftermath of Hurricane Irma provides an opportunity to discuss development of tourism in the region and the strategies implemented to promote the destination.
The objective of this Council meeting was to think collectively about the creation of the St. Martin territory brand with the technical support of Atout France – France’s tourism development agency.
“By creating a territorial brand, as provided for in the 2017-2027 reconstruction and tourism development plan, it sets us (St. Martin) apart from the competition by building on the territory’s heritage assets and our values,” the Collectivité explained. “The second objective is to create social cohesion to revive a sense of belonging to a community by bringing citizens together around a shared identity.
“The creation of the territory brand is a long work process that requires collective investment in a tool that must be representative of the identity of the territory and understood by all. The brand will be followed by the development of a communication-marketing strategy for the destination and a strategy for promoting the region, which will bring it to life locally and promote it internationally.”
