Tourism Office promoting destination in the USA

MARIGOT–French-side tourism office officials have been in Miami and New York between January 21 and 27, 2018, for a series of press conferences and appointments to promote the destination. It was the first overseas promotional trip since the passing of Hurricane Irma.

The delegation comprised First Vice-President Valérie Damaseau who is also President of St. Martin Tourism Office, her Vice-President Alex Pierre, Tourism Office Director Kate Richardson, Ada Weinum who is responsible for USA promotion, Maia Pilzer from 100% Villas, and Grand Case Beach Club General Manager Steve Wright.
The press conferences had several objectives: to update the US press on the current situation of the destination; present the approved tourism development strategy voted in the Territorial Council last November; provide helpful information for visitors planning to visit St. Martin in the coming months; and, announce the planned opening of hotels.
It was also an opportunity to meet partners and tour operators and booking centers such as Expedia or Go Go Travel, Airline Jet Blue, Moorings and Sunsail charter boat companies as well as the President of the Florida Caribbean Cruising Association (FCCA) to discuss and adapt actions to give new impetus to tourism on the island.
In view of the physical damage caused by Hurricane Irma and misinformation that was put out there, it was essential for the tourism office to fulfil its mission of promoting the island and providing correct information to reassure not only tourism professionals, but also the public to ensure a continued presence at trade fairs and other events.
The same delegation was also in Puerto Rico at the end of January for the Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association (CHTA) Marketplace.
