Tourism Office representatives promoting St. Martin’s revival | THE DAILY HERALD

Air Antilles has increased its flights between Martinique and St. Martin to three per day.

MARIGOT–Representatives from St. Martin Tourism Office were recently in Martinique to highlight to the press the territory’s recovery and resumption of tourism two years after Hurricane Irma.

Led by the Tourism Office Director Aïda Weinum, the objective was to sell the destination which the office said was now “getting a second wind and doing much better since 85 per cent of the island has been rebuilt.”

The tourism office noted by the end of 2019, accommodation capacity is expected to increase to some 1,040 rooms. Prior to Hurricane Irma there were 1,449 rooms available. In addition, 140 restaurants based on the French side expect to return to normal activity for the coming season.

In another indication of confidence in the destination and tourism revival, regional airline Air Antilles has seen an increase in activity in recent months leading to the airline now operating three flights per day between Martinique and St. Martin.
