The Council of Ministers met with the Executive Board and Management of St. Maarten Hospitality and Trade Association (SHTA) on Thursday, March 1. SHTA requested the meeting, according to a government press statement, to express the association’s interest and support in achieving the goals set by government post-Hurricane Irma to revive the economy and rebuild the country.
Discussed were Budget 2018 and 2019; ways to increase government’s revenues, strategies to assist the private sector in the area of policies, soft loans provision, taxes and other means to foster economic growth. Follow-up meetings with each minister will take place to continue discussions on the way forward.
The still-draft National Recovery Plan is also for a future discussion between government and SHTA. A copy for SHTA’s 2018 events calendar was presented to ministers at the end of the meeting.

Everybody needs to make sure things happen quickly, tourism will be lost to other islands if government and entrepreneurs don’t pick up the pace. Tried to book a vacation no hotels available, so we are going elswhere
wonderful thing to see government working with the business community – good direction for everyone
