ANGUILLA–Tourist arrivals for Anguilla continue to increase and in December 2018 totalled 14,345.
This was a big increase from December 2017, with both stay over tourists and excursionists increasing. Data as far back as 1993 for the month of December, show that December 2017 registered the lowest recorded visitor arrivals, however, December 2018 ranked seventh highest with the years 2014, 2015 and 2016 consecutively ranking first, second and third, respectively.
Anguilla’s inward passenger movement by sea continues to be the main mode of entry. There were a total of 20,263 passengers, including both residents and visitors, arriving by sea with the Blowing Point terminal accounting for 16,695 arrivals and the port at Sandy Ground accounting for 3,588 arrivals. Passenger arrivals by air at Clayton J. Lloyd International Airport totalled 3,075.
A review of the source markets for tourists visiting Anguilla during December 2018 showed that all source markets contributed to the increase. The largest increase was the Canadian market with Italian and UK also showing large increases. The USA market accounted for 66.7 per cent of the tourist arrivals.
There were 5,211 excursionist arrivals. The largest increase in the source markets was the German, Canadian, USA and UK markets. The USA, Anguilla’s main excursionist source held a share of 40.2 per cent of the excursionist arrivals.
