Tourist injured in hit-and-run

SIMPSON BAY–A tourist was knocked down by a vehicle with French licence plate while he was crossing Welfare Road opposite Topper’s Restaurant at 3:00am Saturday. According to police, the driver of the vehicle did not stop and continued driving toward of Simpson Bay.

On the scene, investigating officers found the victim R.L.B., born in Barbados and a resident of Tortola, lying in pool of blood in front of Topper’s and it seemed that the man suffered from severe head trauma. Paramedics treated the victim and transported him to St. Maarten Medical Center for further medical attention. The victim was transported to the United States hours later due to his serious medical condition.

The police request persons who were in the vicinity on Saturday morning and saw what happened to get in contact with the Traffic Department as soon as possible by calling 542-2222 extension 241 or the Emergency Dispatch by dialling 911.
