DUTCH QUARTER–Dutch Quarter residents are invited to a town hall meeting about a sewage project in Dutch Quarter, in the Dutch Quarter Community Centre from 6:30 to 8:30pm Wednesday, May 16. Prime Minister Leona Romeo-Marlin and Infrastructure Minister Miklos Giterson will address attendees.
The meeting, organised by the Departments of Home Affairs and Kingdom Relations and of New Projects, is a follow-up to an earlier dialogue with residents. Residents will learn the latest developments about the 10th European Development Fund (EDF) project, which concerns a sewerage project in the district of Dutch Quarter.
St. Maarten and the European Commission (EC) signed the financing agreement, which outlined a co-financing structure with a contribution of 4.75 million euros.
In the meantime, Government has signed the 10th EDF Works Contract with Van Boekel Bouw and Infra BV. Construction works are to commence this summer.
The project entails the construction of a much-needed sewage system, including a pump station, sewer-to-house connections, infrastructure upgrading and ancillary works in the district. The project will serve to improve the living conditions of low-income residents and reduce poverty in St. Maarten, according to Government.
Following presentations, attendees will have an opportunity to pose questions about the project.
