Truck knocks out TelCell service

POND ISLAND–TelCell’s mobile voice and data customers in the Middle Region area and as far away as Dutch Quarter lost service Tuesday evening and Wednesday after a truck collided with TelEm Group Outside Plant equipment at the entrance of Middle Region on Tuesday night.

TelCell said in a press release on Wednesday that the truck had damaged a fibre node that supplies signal to TelCell’s mobile cell site in Middle Region. This caused disruption in the mobile network not just for mobile voice and data subscribers in Middle Region, but also in Dutch Quarter where another cell site is also linked.

TelEm Group technicians were busy all day Wednesday making repairs to the fibre cable node and were expecting to restore service to mobile customers in both areas during the early evening Wednesday.

TelEm Group and TelCell management apologised to customers for the inconvenience caused by Tuesday’s accident and subsequent damage to network equipment.
