AIRPORT–TUI will start offering package tours to St. Maarten from November 1. The Anglo-German company halted flights to the island after Hurricane Irma struck in September last year. However, in two months the island will be ready to receive tourists again, TUI said Friday.
TUI’s programme will be based on flights operated by Royal Dutch Airlines KLM, which will be carrying out three flights a week to St. Maarten this winter season, departing Tuesday, Friday and Sunday.
TUI will be offering various hotel accommodations on the island from November 1, all of which are fully operational. These are Holland House Beach Hotel, Divi Little Bay Beach Resort, L’Esperance and La Plantation in Orient Bay.
Sonesta Ocean Point Resort and Sonesta Maho Beach Resort, Casino and Spa, which are currently under renovation, will also go on offer once these resorts reopen November 15, 2018, and February 1, 2019, respectively.
Hotel Riu Palace in Anse Marcel has been sold and is being turned into a Secrets Hotel and Spa of the AM Resorts hotel chain. Secrets will open in 2019 after a US $20 million renovation and will also become available for bookings.
“Of course, it is not yet at the same level as before Hurricane Irma, but especially on the Dutch side there is enough reconstruction and there is also a good holiday atmosphere,” said TUI Manager Manfred Lahey. “People can once again enjoy the white beaches and the azure blue sea. We are cautiously starting St. Maarten, also to encourage local entrepreneurs and to stimulate the economy.”
TUI is going to set up a marketing campaign together with the St. Maarten Tourism Board. St. Maarten trips are now bookable at TUI.
