Hendrik Ekema, representing St. Maarten, won two gold and a bronze medal at the Tae kwon do International World Championships at the Barclay Card Arena, Birmingham, England. On the first day of competition Ekema who has lived and worked on the Friendly Island for the past six years won bronze in the point stop sparring category. On the second day he took gold in both the side kick and back kick breaking test. Ekema had hoped to earn a third gold medal in Continuous sparring but was injured. He was accompanied to England by his coach and trainer Emanuel Richardson of Body Action Sxm gym.
