MARIGOT–The high-end store “Jewels by Love” situated on Rue Général de Gaulle, Marigot, was robbed at around 1:45pm Wednesday, and an undisclosed amount of jewellery and watches stolen.
According to Commandant Sébastien Manzoni at least 4 masked thieves, using two scooters, took part in the heist. Two of them, one armed with a gun, entered the store after smashing the glass entrance door with a hammer.
They proceeded to smash showcases and steal the valuables before making their escape as two accomplices waited outside.
Witnesses said the thieves escaped in the direction of Hotel de la Collectivité. It also emerged they used a grey Suzuki Vitara jeep with no number plates to block the street before approaching the store on scooters.
The store’s manager declined to give any further information.
A forensics unit of the Gendarmerie was busy dusting for fingerprints. Manzoni said a search was already in progress to capture the thieves, and video surveillance footage of the store is being studied.
