PHILIPSBURG–Homes under the supervision of St. Maarten Housing Development Foundation (SMHDF) that are badly in need of repairs after Hurricane Irma struck in September 2017 are now slated for upgrades based on a recently-signed US $550,000 contract.
National Recovery Programme Bureau Director Claret Connor signed the contract with Caines Construction and Maintenance Services. The contract covers 100 roofs and ceilings in some 40 buildings.
Caines was awarded the contract after an extensive bidding process supervised by the Interim Recovery Committee. SMHDF will supervise the contract execution.
The homes for repairs are in Delight, Anna’s Hope, Sugar Mill, Foga and Careta Estates, Belvedere.
The repairs fall under the $55 million Emergency Recovery Project, one of the projects of the St. Maarten Recovery and Resilience Trust Fund financed by the Netherlands and managed by the World Bank.
