PHILIPSBURG–University of St. Martin (USM) in collaboration with the St. Maarten Anti-Poverty Platform will hold a public dialogue on the status of human rights in the Kingdom of the Netherlands, at USM on Saturday, December 15, from 10:00am to 1:00pm
The event is being held on the occasion of the 64th anniversary of the Kingdom Charter. This year’s Kingdom Charter Day commemoration coincides with the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
USM and the Anti-Poverty Platform have invited “prominent islanders” to reflect on the realisation of civil, political, socio-economic and cultural rights in the Kingdom and in particular in St. Maarten.
Mavis Brooks-Salmon, Lysanne Charles and Denisio Bryson will address the democratic and human rights deficit in the Kingdom, while Raymond Jessurun, Dr. Rhoda Arrindel and Riegnald Arrindell will focus on economic and cultural rights, as well as the right to development.
“The event promises to be very informative and educative,” Jessurun said in a press release issued by USM. “We are happy to be collaborating with USM to instigate a public dialogue on these important issues.”
Entrance to the event is free. Doors will open at 9:30am.
