POND ISLAND--The University of St. Martin (USM) has introduced weekly motivational sessions to connect Caribbean Foundation Year students with professionals, community leaders and alumni who can share their experiences and career advice.
The Pep Talks began last week with Nkosazana Illis, a holistic healer and social worker, who spoke with students about personal growth and well-being.
Captain Peterson Bourjoly of SXM Airways, a USM alumnus, is scheduled to speak with students this week, followed next week by President of Parliament Sarah Wescot-Williams.
Shobhan Giterson, who also serves as mentor to the CFY students, said the sessions give students opportunities to learn from others’ experiences, ask questions and consider their own future paths.
“It's not just about listening to someone speak. It's about asking questions, learning from their journeys, and hopefully walking away inspired to think bigger about their own future,” Giterson said.
The sessions take place on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings and are intended to expose students to different career paths and perspectives while encouraging them to build confidence, set goals and explore their potential.
USM is inviting alumni and other community members to volunteer to take part in upcoming sessions. Interested persons can contact the university at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or call +1 (721) 542-5171.
