PHILIPSBURG–University of St. Martin (USM) annually hosts students of Tulane University located in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. Their visit to the island is part of their cultural anthropology courses.

The students completed their visit this year by attending a lecture at USM by instructor Rhoda Arrindell on the topic “Language and Culture,” and a farewell luncheon hosted by Ras Touza Jah Bash of Bellevue Market Garden last month, Stakeholders involved listened to the students’ reflections of their three-week stay on the island.

The students, who hail from different states in the USA, are all pursuing their bachelor’s degrees. This is the third year Tulane University has collaborated with USM in the areas of international community service, volunteerism and student exchange.

USM Business student Parina Lotlikar participated in the student exchange programme, completing her final semester at Tulane University.

USM instructor Patricia Arrindell said the current student exchange programme should be completed by the 2019 Fall semester.

Both Myriam Huet, Director of the Tulane University centre for Public Studies, and USM Dean of Academics Rolinda Carter showed interest in continuing with the successful collaboration. Other areas of academic engagement will also be explored by the new USM management team – Antonio Baez and Carter.
