POND ISLAND--The University of St. Martin (USM) welcomed its newest students during New Student Orientation on Friday, August 14, as the university prepared for the Fall 2026 semester, which officially began Monday, August 17.
The orientation gave incoming students an opportunity to become familiar with the university, meet faculty and staff, learn about available services and resources, and gain a better understanding of what to expect as they begin their studies.
USM alumnus Jerome Gumbs delivered a motivational address to the incoming students, drawing on his own journey and encouraging them as they take the next step in their education.
Minister of Finance Marinka Gumbs also addressed the students, offering words of encouragement as they begin the new academic year and reminding them of the importance of education and making the most of the opportunity before them.
Classes officially began Monday, August 17. The Fall 2026 semester runs through December 5, 2026, with students returning to classrooms across USM’s degree programmes, individual course offerings and Continuing Education Programme (CEP).
