ANGUILLA–The University of the West Indies (UWI) Open Campus has launched its new academic year with a local site orientation for staff and students. Executive Members of the Anguilla Chapter of the UWI Open Campus Guild of Students were also on hand to welcome the new students.
The Preparatory/Meet and Greet session formed part of a number of online and face-to-face orientation and registration activities geared towards preparing the online students for their new academic year.
Manager for the UWI Open Campus British Overseas Territories Sites, Dr. Phyllis Fleming-Banks congratulated the new students and commended them for choosing the UWI. “As we celebrate the 70th year of our University we are pleased that you have chosen the UWI. You are a true representation of the University’s commitment to greater and more affordable access. These are exciting times at the UWI and we encourage you to take advantage of all the opportunities,” she said.
Administrative Assistant Tesia Harrigan followed up with a presentation on registration and other processes. Guild Chair Kemoloy Murphy also welcomed the new students and outlined the activities and support network established by the Guild to help ensure their success. Words of support and encouragement also came from continuing students and Executive Student Guild members Charlene Roach and Melissa Harrigan.
Other orientation activities for the 2018-2019 academic year include a church service at the Church of God – Holiness, on Sunday, September 2, the official Online Welcome and Matriculation Ceremony and the annual “Oneness” networking evening with members of other local student bodies on Saturday, September 8.
The UWI Open Campus Anguilla received more than 110 applications for its online programmes for Semester One 2018-2019. It is still receiving applications for the local face-to-face Continuing and Professional Education programmes which begin during the second week of September.
