THE HAGUE–The Kingdom Council of Ministers on Friday has approved the appointment of Maria van der Sluijs-Plantz as Member of the Council of State of the Kingdom on behalf of St. Maarten.
Van der Sluijs-Plantz will be appointed per October 1. Per that same date, she will step down from the Committee for Financial Supervision CFT Curaçao and St. Maarten of which she has been a member since October 2015, also on behalf of St. Maarten.
Van der Sluijs-Plantz (1955), who has her roots in St. Maarten, but lives in the
Netherlands, studied Dutch linguistics and law. She is a successful businesswoman and has been active in several international businesses, including as CEO of the TMF Group.
The position for St. Maarten on the Advisory Department of the Council of State of the Kingdom had been vacant since mid-2013 when then member Dennis Richardson resigned to become Minister of Justice in St. Maarten.
With the appointment of Van der Sluijs-Plantz, the Council of State of the Kingdom will once more be complete after several years. Recently, it was announced that Paul Comenencia would be appointed to the Council of State of the Kingdom per September 1 on behalf of Curaçao. Mildred Schwengle was appointed a year ago on behalf of Aruba.
The Advisory Department of the Council of State of the Kingdom gives advice on matters regarding the Kingdom, including Kingdom laws, General Measures of the Kingdom government AMvRBs and Kingdom treaties. Aruba, Curaçao and St. Maarten each have a member who participates in the meetings of the Council of State of the Kingdom.
