ST. EUSTATIUS–A vehicle collided into a utility pole of St. Eustatius Utility Company Stuco alongside the Road to Whitewall on Saturday night around 9:00.

The St. Eustatius Fire Department received a call at 9:07pm from the Police requesting technical assistance.

Upon arrival at the scene firefighters saw a 2001 Jeep with vehicle-license plates E-990 that was “parked” against a broken utility pole in a one-sided road accident. The driver of the vehicle was taken to Queen Beatrix Medical Center by ambulance personnel.

The vehicle was towed back from the pole by Stuco personnel. A crowd of onlookers gathered at the location.

Stuco turned off the electricity for 45 minutes to stabilise the pole. At one point during the night the wind blew the high-tension wires which caused the utility pole to crash onto the ground. When this occurred, the crowd of onlookers scattered.

STUCO reported it did some temporary repairs on Saturday night and switched back on the power supply. On Sunday morning STUCO once again turned the electricity off to do full repairs, after which the power was turned back on.
