Just imagine paying thousands of dollars for a holiday in paradise, but when you get there your sunbathing is constantly interrupted by the shadow of vendors pushing stuff in your face or the constant yell of “Taxi! You want a taxi?” from a taxi driver over the hum of incoming airplanes.
This is the reality many cruise and stayover passengers face constantly on Maho Beach, Philipsburg and elsewhere around the country. Tourist harassment by vendors continues to increase much to the chagrin of visitors and cruise lines.
These vendors were observed going up to beach-goers, even those lying on their bellies taking a nap try to sell them everything from wraps and old St. Maarten licence plates to paintings.
