Dr. Victor Gibbs, this year’s recipient of the Distinguished Service Award from APANY.
ANGUILLA–This year’s Anguilla Progressive Association of New York (APANY) honouree for the Distinguished Service Award is Victor Gibbs of French St. Martin. He will be awarded at the 22nd Annual Dinner Dance Awards Gala that is held each year to celebrate Anguilla Day.
Gibbs is the son of a teacher from Anguilla; his father is from St. Martin and was the postmaster in Marigot. Gibbs attended the University of Montpellier in France, where he earned Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science and Medical Doctor degrees.
In addition to being a private medical practitioner he is recognised for his outstanding record of voluntary community work and activism in St. Martin, Guadeloupe and Anguilla. During the time of the Anguilla Revolution Gibbs volunteered several times a week to provide medical care for the residents of Anguilla.
Dr. Gibbs is married to Marie-Claude Gibbs and they have two children. Daniel won the territorial elections in St. Martin on March 26, 2017, and is the sixth President of the Collectivité de St Martin. Alexandra is a social worker and expert at the courthouse in Marigot, St. Martin.
APANY’s President Carlson Connor and Vice President Rey Allen issued the following statement. “It is our distinct honour to name Dr. Victor Gibbs as the honouree slated to receive our Distinguished Service Award; therefore we are certain that family and friends would like to join us in expressing their congratulations and well wishes to Dr. Gibbs in APANY’s Souvenir Journal.”
APANY is a 501c(3) non-profit organisation incorporated in New York State since 1996. Its mission is to provide assistance for the educational, economic and socio-cultural needs of Anguillians at home and abroad.
