PHILIPSBURG–VOICES Foundation is again in charge of the annual Cultural Ancestral Emancipation Day celebration at Emilio Wilson Park on July 1.
“This year’s event promises to be one that will leave the people of St. Maarten feeling great about their ancestral legacy,” said VOICES President Nkosazana Esther Illis.
The theme for this year’s event is “Family Legacy,” chosen to emphasise the greatness and heritage of St. Maarten’s ancestors and family history.
“Back in the day, the St. Maarten family played an essential role in the community and the family always came first. The people of St. Maarten valued family time and enjoyed sharing their knowledge with each other and the next generation,” Illis added. “Come out to Emilio Wilson Park with your blankets and traditional clothes and let us celebrate our legacy and heritage together.
“VOICES Foundation extends its deepest condolences the York family and the Ministry Department of Culture on the passing of Neville York. He was one of St. Maarten’s cultural icons, and son of our soil. Rest in peace Neville York. We wish the family lots of love, faith and strength during these challenging times.”
