PHILIPSBURG–The Ministry of Public Housing, Spatial Planning, Environment and Infrastructure VROMI is confident that the road works on Front Street will be completed by April 20.
Infrastructural works leading to emergency repairs of the street started on April 10. The project will be carried out in two phases.
Phase one, from Sea Palace Hotel up to the Courthouse, started on Sunday. This section of the street will be blocked until April 20 to facilitate the necessary works.
Phase two, from the Courthouse up to Emmaplein, will be blocked April 20-30.
Many businesses have been complaining about the sudden announcement of works starting in the midst of the Carnival season. However, VROMI Minister Angel Meyers said in a recent press conference that the works needed to start as soon as possible. VROMI believes the street repair works will be completed before the Grand Carnival Parade on Sunday, May 1.
The road works are being carried out by Windward Roads under the coordination of Ministry VROMI. The Ministry continues to seek the cooperation of all residents and businesses in the affected areas. Delivery of goods to and from establishments can take place via the side streets, as access will remain open up to Front Street. Vehicles should not be parked on the side streets, as these should remain open at all times for emergency vehicles.
