Panneflex said after a review of the request a reply will be provided to applicants with further advice.

“As your minister of health, social development and labour it is important that the social aspect of the ministry is not overlooked,” said Panneflek. In the recent weeks ESF (Emergency Support Function) seven has held several meetings with church leaders and community councils with the objective to partner with these institutions.  He assured that these meetings will continue in the near future.

According to Panneflek, approximately 762 boxes of food and 697 hygiene boxes have been packed to be made available to persons affected by the COVID-19 ongoing pandemic. The packing of the food boxes began on Saturday, April 4 and distribution began Monday, April 6. “The government of St. Maarten will continue to work relentlessly to ensure that every qualified person is assisted. These are trying times but such situations are what pulls the community together,” assured Panneflek.

The minister also noted an increase of labour complaints. He said his cabinet has been instructed to maintain close communication with the head of the department of labour and her staff to ensure that employers are not abusing the situation regarding their employees. “I also would like to reiterate, those that may have labour complaints email us at dismissalteam@sintmaartengov.org
